About this event

Supporting a loved one when they are in crisis can be scary, especially if you don't feel like you have the knowledge and tools to intervene. We are excited to offer 2 back-to-back trainings in this 2 hour event. Join for either hour or join for the entire 12-2 pm CT block to complete both trainings! Learn more about both trainings below.

VA S.A.V.E. Training: 12-1 pm CT

We greatly appreciate our partnership with the Austin area VA to bring the S.A.V.E. training to the VSN community. This training helps you act with care and compassion if you encounter a veteran who is in crisis or experiencing suicidal thoughts. This will be an informative training with the opportunity to ask questions at the end. We are excited to welcome our guest educator, Tierra Gregory LCSW-S.

Conversation on Access to Lethal Means Training (1-2 pm CT)

The CALM Conversations workshop provides individuals with the tools to have the critical conversation about safety around and access to lethal means during a crisis. In our military and veteran family community, reducing access to lethal means, such as firearms and medication, can determine whether a person at risk for suicide lives or dies. To learn more about the CALM workshop, please read on.

Participants in CALM training will:

  1. Become more knowledgeable about suicide facts
  2. Learn how to inquire about the accessibility of lethal means
  3. Learn how to suggest safe storage
  4. Learn about the results of lethal means reduction in countries outside the U.S.

Due to the sensitive nature of this training please remember that there are resources available: Veterans Crisis Line: 988 & Press 1
